Small business in Oregon
Oregon's small businesses are heavy on construction and trades, especially in Portland's suburbs and fast-growing Bend, along with professional services, breweries, wineries and restaurants, farm and nursery businesses in the Willamette Valley, and tourism on the coast and in the Cascades.
According to the SBA Office of Advocacy's 2025 profile of Oregon, the sectors with the most small employers are construction and the trades, professional services such as law, accounting, engineering and consulting, health care, including medical, dental and therapy offices, restaurants, cafés and lodging and repair and personal services such as auto repair, salons and dry cleaners.
Where Ava helps Oregon businesses
- Builders and trades. Contractors in Portland, Salem and Central Oregon can have Ava capture estimate requests while crews are on site.
- Wineries and tasting rooms. Willamette Valley wineries can send tasting and event calls to Ava on busy weekends.
- In-person vs. phone. Oregon's all-party rule applies to in-person conversations, not phone calls. Ava answers by phone, and her greeting can still include a recording notice if you like.

Recording calls in Oregon
Mixed or unsettled; treat as all-party for phone calls. Oregon splits by type of conversation. ORS 165.540 allows recording a telecommunication, including a phone call, with the consent of at least one participant, but requires that all participants be told before recording an in-person conversation. For ordinary phone calls, Oregon is one-party.
Oregon businesses often get calls from Washington, California, Idaho and Nevada. Of those, Washington, California and Nevada require all-party consent or have unsettled rules, which is one more reason to give a notice at the start.
Ava always says she's an AI. If your setup records calls, the script we draft adds a short recording notice to her greeting, and you approve the wording. Interstate calls can be tricky; see the state-by-state overview.
Time zones and after-hours coverage
Time zones in Oregon: Pacific Time for most of the state; most of Malheur County (near Idaho) uses Mountain Time. If you operate in more than one zone, Ava's after-hours script can follow each location's local time.
